The digital divide refers to the gap between individuals, households, businesses and geographic areas at different socio-economic levels with regard to both their opportunities to access information and communication technologies (ICT) and to their use of the Internet for a wide variety of activities.

The internet is used much less frequently in the countries of Africa and Latin America, where poverty occurs. They cannot afford to buy the technology needed and the lack they education and skills to use the technology. This causes these areas, which are already lagging behind due to the lack of technology, to lag further behind when companies such as Samsung create new technology which requires even more skills to use.
